Exhibit Design and Layout

 

The exhibit is divided into four sections.  Each object depicts an aspect of its section.

Section I:    Capture - Life of Africans before and during capture.

 

Section II:   Middle Passage - The people, events and conditions during the transport of the captured.

 

Section III:  To Be a Slave - The labor, treatment, and life of the enslaved. 

 

Section IV:  Becoming African American - The struggles, endurance, and achievements to gaining and maintaining freedom.
