About me, the artist

My Name is Martha Edgerton.  For over 35 years, I had the most rewarding career conserving and preserving library materials at several prestigious educational institutions in the mid-Atlantic region.  It was through that profession that I also learned the arts and crafts side of bookmaking and paper engineering, which allowed me (in 2014) to redirect my career-focus from preserving library materials to creating book and paper art.

My repertoire of bookbinding and book art includes but is not limited to: handmade books (photo albums, blank books, journals/diaries, etc.), handmade book boxes (clamshells, portfolios, slipcases, etc.), altered books, mixed media books, re-purposed books, and more.

My paper engineering crafts include: hair and body jewelry, desk and book shelf ornaments, and other accessories.

I also teach bookmaking classes for children and adults.

This website is dedicated mainly to“The Amazing Race: The Atlantic Slave Trade through the Pages of Book Art” (TARBAE) exhibition. To learn more about it, please explore the rest of my website and feel free to contact me about the exhibit or other related matters.

Thank you for Visiting! Enjoy!
